Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would become a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit sci-fi show coming to an end—and a second season already in development—the creative team opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Fan Response

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. He is striving to ignore the noise.

“It feels like an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's by design. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Does Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that the writers aren’t being guided by fan response, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a decent plan for a better idea. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, one could always use the iconic TV endings?

“I want Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
