Ukraine has announced the start of large-scale manufacturing for a new locally engineered interceptor drone to enhance its aerial protection systems. Three initial manufacturers have started manufacturing, with an additional eleven preparing to establish assembly lines, the defence ministry stated this past Friday.

Advanced 'Octopus' System Tested in Battlefield Situations

These UAVs will be based on a domestically developed technology called “Octopus” engineered to neutralize Shahed drones. This technology underwent testing in combat and proved effective “at night, under jamming and at low altitudes,” the ministry confirmed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has set an ambitious goal of manufacturing up to 1,000 defensive drones daily.

Recent Assault on Kyiv Characterized as Deliberate

The Ukrainian president described Moscow's most recent assault on Ukraine as “intentional, calculated and brutal” following six people were killed and dozens wounded in a wave of nocturnal attacks across Kyiv. Air raid sirens activated in the capital just after 12 AM on Friday, with Shahed drones soon heard overhead and intensive defensive fire from Ukraine's aerial protection units.

The president stated the country was targeted by 430 drones and multiple missiles. The deceased were at home in a block of flats on Kyiv’s left bank during the strike. Dozens of other buildings sustained damage, including the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan.

International Objection After Diplomatic Compound Destruction

Azerbaijan said it issued a strong protest to the Russian ambassador on Friday after the destruction at its diplomatic compound. An explosion from a Moscow's missile demolished a section of the compound's boundary wall and caused serious damage to the diplomatic compound, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry reported. No one was hurt, and a ministry spokesperson said the Kyiv embassy was maintaining operations.

Russian Aerial Bomb Production Experiences Significant Increase

Russia plans to produce as many as 120,000 guided aerial bombs this year, a high-ranking Ukrainian defense official said, among them 500 of a new, longer-range version that is capable of targeting more towns and cities. Russian forces have been launching 200 to 250 aerial bombs per day, with the previous month's daily average standing at approximately 170, based on official military statistics.

Ukrainian Attacks Focus on Moscow's Oil Facilities

Russia’s Black Sea port of the port city halted for a period oil exports on Friday – equivalent to two percent of global supply – following a strike by Ukrainian forces. Military commanders in Kyiv stated its forces had fired domestically produced missiles and used multiple kinds of attack UAVs in the assault against Novorossiysk “within the framework of efforts to diminish the military and economic potential of the invading force.”

Ukraine separately targeted a processing plant in the Saratov area and a fuel storage facility in the adjacent Engels region during the night.

Global Restrictions Impact Moscow's Oil Producer

The number two energy company Lukoil announced this past Friday it has been in talks with interested parties regarding its international holdings after recent sanctions from the UK and the US and failure of a deal with the Gunvor trading house. “The specific deal will be announced after conclusive negotiations have been reached and the necessary regulatory approvals are secured,” the company commented.

Ukrainian President Schedules Diplomatic Trip to Spain

The Ukrainian leader will visit the city of Madrid, Madrid, on Tuesday to confer with parliament members a day after his trip to France, the chamber of deputies announced. Zelenskyy would meet representatives from both chambers of parliament throughout his stay, an official announcement said.
