The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several key changes:
- Each team includes just 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Activities done by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Community Responses: Anger to Praise
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and another details all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Input
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
