The former Liverpool manager admits rejoining to coach Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that a future comeback remains an option. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-year spell that included Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, currently occupies positions in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the Premier League last season, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would welcome the notion of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he explained to his interviewer: “I declared I will never coach any other side in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“At 58 years old, so the choice could be mine down the line, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations would have to unfold to bring him back to the dugout, he confessed he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing in the rain through long matches; I'm glad to skip press conferences repeatedly each week or constant media duties a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad having a nice chat, I appreciate that. Success was frequent so there was often a very good mood at the club. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, praising him for the adjustments that won the league last campaign. The team has suffered four in a row across various tournaments post heavy investment, but he rubbished the suggestion of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and the effect at the club. The forward was killed in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the team environment without him in it. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad too. Not a single person would cite it to justify results but it is the situation. Being in that space which he filled completely. Handling this emotionally is difficult. Impossible.”
