Time in Custody: Inner Thoughts

“Inside jail there is nothing to see, and nothing to do,” he notes in a preview, implying the account centers around his thoughts from solitary confinement instead of extensive analysis on the strained and troubled jail system in France.

“Quiet is absent, which is missing in that facility, where there is endless commotion,” he states. “The din is alas constant. However, akin to empty spaces, personal reflection is fortified while incarcerated.”

“It never crossed my mind that in my seventies, I would end up incarcerated. It’s an ordeal that has been imposed on me. It’s challenging, I acknowledge, extremely tough. It leaves a mark all who experience it as it’s exhausting.”

Unprecedented Situation

Sarkozy, who led the nation from 2007 to 2012, was the first past president of an EU country and the first postwar leader in the French Republic to serve time in prison.

Reports indicated his diet consisted just yogurt in prison worried that prison cuisine may have been contaminated. Options were available to cook for himself yet he declined, as per accounts. Unclear remains whether Sarkozy will write about meals during incarceration.

Legal Perspective

The legal representative, Christophe Ingrain every day while he was in prison, informed the court security would be better outside jail compared to inside. “He received threats against his life, listened to yells after dark and emergency responses in a neighbouring cell during an inmate’s self-injury.”
