The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop Gaming World as a Brutally Tactical TTRPG
The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division is being translated into a dice-based role-playing experience. A collaboration was established to create a tabletop RPG that explores the franchise’s apocalyptic setting. The project was revealed, with a funding drive scheduled to launch in April of 2026.
"This project will bring the series' unique suspense, strategic depth, and iconic world-building to the table, providing fans a new way to experience The Division through deep narrative and player-driven missions," reads an official release.
Launch products will include a beginner's box, essential manuals, a GM screen, figurines, and several deluxe editions.
Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World
In this setting, a deadly virus called Green Poison was released in NYC, plunging the United States into turmoil. As the crisis worsens, civil order breaks down and hostile groups rise, transforming the city into a warzone. To preserve order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a secret cell of undercover operatives. That’s where the agents enter the story.
Development on the RPG has been underway for about several years, and it is reportedly finished. The upcoming Kickstarter campaign will function as a pre-launch sales platform to reach a broader market, specifically in North America. Production is slated to begin right after the campaign, with deliveries expected for the latter part of 2026.
A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
A preview at the game's rules confirms it employs 10-sided dice exclusively through its proprietary GRIS system, promoting a streamlined and strategic style. Agents use abilities to assemble small dice pools, typically between one and five d10s.
- Rather than adding results together, players choose a single “resolution die” from the pool.
- This dice is then compared against a target difficulty.
- Rolling a perfect 10 triggers additional bonuses, such as extra damage or boosted support.
Combat Emphasize Tactical Placement and Awareness
Battles prioritize positioning and environmental awareness, mirroring the source material. Factors like taking cover, height advantage, or line of sight directly influence dice rolls. This system seems built to favor coordination and smart positioning over simple statistics.
A Novel Wound System
The way injuries is tracked introduces a compelling narrative layer. Operatives have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits weakens their capabilities by lowering the size of their dice pool.
- At critical condition, an operative is downed, but they’re not knocked out.
- They can still move and take limited actions, simulating the "downed" state common to many shooter games.
- Any agent in this state must roll on a injury chart, potentially gaining lingering conditions like shock or crippling injuries.
An Introductory Adventure
A free Quickstart Guide will be released in the near future. It includes a pre-made introductory scenario called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, the group lead the search for a lost doctor squad and work to stop an attack by the violent Rikers gang, who have taken over that Manhattan district. Further information and the complete product lineup will be detailed near the Kickstarter start date.
