The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The buzz around the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction implies that the team is likely building a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, allowing players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can look forward to more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
