Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; officials are not yet informed of any harm in association with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
A senior representative commented the attack rendered him without words and had to be resolved promptly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
