Everyday tennis enthusiasts will have an opportunity to earn a seven-figure prize when they take on elite players - including leading player Carlos Alcaraz - in a winner-takes-all point leading up to January's Australian Open

Tournament officials of the Australian Open have revealed the Seven-Figure Quick-Fire Competition, which will match 10 amateur players against top-ranked players in a single-elimination format at the tournament grounds

The Unique Event Will Work

Competitors are set to play 'the classic hand game' to establish who gets to serve or return, and whoever wins the point will progress to the subsequent phase

The champion of the event will take home a significant cash prize

For comparison, players who made it to the semi-finals of the primary tournaments in the 2025 Australian Open won over a million Australian dollars

Past Related Competitions

The New York major hosted a restructured, standalone combined gender tournament in August which motivated top singles players to take part, with the champions receiving $1m

The Melbourne tournament held its inaugural One Point Slam earlier this year, but the prize fund was sixty thousand Australian dollars and it had limited exposure

One top competitor was the only top-10 player competing, and his run concluded when he put the single service opportunity granted into the net in his last eight match

Competition Information

Organizers have not said exactly how the event will work, but it is anticipated to emulate a similar format to the most recent iteration

The top competitors will be permitted to make one service and the everyday players two times - as is the norm in traditional tennis

While it is uncertain how the bracket will work, there will be multiple elimination stages and the site will be the primary court rather than the secondary venue

The last matches will take place in a nighttime schedule instead of 1pm local time

Participation Requirements

Domestic competitors - or international players who have registered with Tennis Australia - can enter 'quick-match event' events at their community centers

The champions of the grassroots tournaments will then go into a selection process, with one amateur player from every region and area chosen to compete in the 'final competition' in a night session on the specified date

There will also be a entry tournament in December which amateurs, developing professionals, celebrities and athletic celebrities can participate in

It commences on the starting date and the pair of champions will go into the midweek 'championship match' with the additional everyday players and elite competitors

"No matter your experience, the overall victor will claim the reward. Applications will open soon at clubs across the country"

Event organizers said there were "additional stars to be announced soon", while the official website indicated "celebrities" would be involved
